The Big Medallion Debate
You can love it, you can hate it - but you need to know it
Here is a free webinar about a very complicated and very needed architecture. The Medallion Architecture.
It’s an honor for me to host, ask, and challenge author Piethein Strengholt on his book Building Medallion Architectures. It’s a great, very detailed book that really explains all the nuts and bolts of this intricate, needed architecure.
One of the best diagrams in Pietheins book is Figure 3-5, that both illustrate that the layers fo this architecture are logical, not physical, and that silver layer mirrors the bronze layer, while the gold layer introduces a new, complicated but sorely needed architecture optimized for analytical consumption:
But what are the limits of this architecture? Does it even exist? And if so, does it have a future? This architecture tends to divide the data community in pros and a cons. What’s your opinion?

As I read the diagram when we want to create a single list of Core Business Concepts, its treated as a Harmonising pattern and happens in the Gold layer?
I.e Customer in the CRM, Finance and eCommerce Systems of Capture, the Customer Id gets Harmonised in the Gold layer to give us a single list of Customers.
Reason I ask is that the term Conform is often used for this and in that diagram Conforming data is happening in the Silver layer.
